Book Review: Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

Rating: 3 stars of 5

Iron Flame is the second book in the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros. The first book was Fourth Wing, which I have reviewed separately here on the blog and discussed in a video here.

While Fourth Wing was virtually unputdownable and kept me up reading until 2am multiple times, Iron Flame was much less engaging by contrast, particularly in the first half. I kept finding myself reaching for other books instead of continuing with this one and ended up taking a couple of weeks to finish it.

The last 25-30% of the book was really where the pace started to pick up and grip me again, and I did think that the ending of this one was a lot stronger than the ending of the first book.

Overall, I didn’t love it as much as the first book, but I still look forward to continuing with the series when book #3 is published.

(Note: This book contains spice. I would not recommend this series for children.)
